Extension and Research Interests
The Plant Nematology Facility Diagnostics and Outreach projects focus on current issues relating to plant-parasitic nematodes (microscopic roundworms)( fact sheet) and their effect on the economics of agriculture within the state of Maryland. Operating in cooperation with University of Maryland System faculty, specialists and staff, the laboratory provides nematode assay and advisory support for Extension and Research programs and projects. Collaborative work is also routinely conducted with personnel in Plant Protection at the Maryland Department of Agriculture and the Nematology Section at the USDA Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. Two economically significant nematode species, Heterodera glycines (Soybean Cyst Nematode, SCN)(SCN fact sheet) and Meloidogyne incognita (Root-Knot Nematode, RKN)(RKN fact sheet) are primary in ongoing nematode management efforts.

The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Coordinator supports the cooperative goals of the Maryland IPM Program via program accountability and interactions with personnel addressing pest management issues on a state, regional and national level.
